How sublime a word it is! What really is art? It means empathy the power of entering into another individual’s personality so as to understand his mood. Art create something new out of an object and establishes harmonious relationship between the two, the creator and the creation and then the creation and the admirer.
Chavara is a small village in Kollam district of Kerala. Occupies a key position in the artistic and cultural arena of Kerala. This picturesque village has given birth to a number of eminent personalities including Smt. Chavara Parukutty the first female artist of Kerala with such a caliber.
Now she keeps alive her artistic tradition through her daughter Smt. Dhanya. S.Kumar a product of Kerala Kalamandalam.
Smt.Dhanya’s innate artistic ingenuity has been enriched by the Kerala Kalamandalam the renowned art centre founded by the great poet Vallathol Sri Narayana Menon to promote and popularise Kathakali and Mohiniyattam.
Smt.Dhanya learned Mohiniyattam, the dance form radiating the romantic charm of Kerala and Kuchippudi, the enchanting dance form originated in the village of Kuchelapuram in Krishna district in Andra Pradesh under the guidance of Kalamandalam Leelamma, Kalamandalam Hymavathy, Kalamandalam Lathika, Kalamandalam Pushpalatha and Kalamandalam Rajalekshmi.
Smt.Dhanya has also acquired mastery in Mohiniyattam under Kalamandalam Leelama and Kalamandalam Girija at The Sri Sankaracharya Sanskrit University Kalady a prestigious institution blessed by the divine presence of Sri Sankaracharya.
Smt.Dhanya has further established her name in Bharathanatyam the dance form of Tamilnadu originated from the devadasi tradition. Now she completed master degree course in Bharathanatyam under the Guidance of Mathan Mohan Krishna Sarma at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts under Bharathidasan University, Thiruchirappalli and currently studying M Phil under Kerala University in Performing and Visual Ads.
Dhanya made her successful debut in Bharathanatyam through the melodramatic stage presentation of ‘Ekalavya’, ‘Pazhayoru pattu’ are poetic composition by Sri.O.N.V. Kurup the recipient of ‘Njanapeeda Award’, the presentation of ‘Kutrala'.
'Kuravanchi' and the dance presentation of “pandu pandu yamunatheerathu” the poem written by Thirunallur Karunakaran.
